Fancy Hum­ming­bird Feeder

Spring,  Easter and Moth­ers Day, will soon be upon us so it’s not too soon to start think­ing about what gits to buy our loved ones to cel­e­brate them.

I once  owned a gar­den­ing and land­scape busi­ness. Being in the busi­ness, often when I had a need to shop for gifts, I would buy things for the yard or gar­den. It was con­ve­nient because I could buy things I knew some­thing about, knew they were good qual­ity and were gifts that would bring last­ing pleasure.

One of my favorite things to buy was  bird feed­ers and other bird related acces­sories. Bird feed­ers are a won­der­ful addi­tion to any yard and there is a type suit­able for any type of sit­u­a­tion, even a bal­cony where a hum­ming­bird feeder is per­fect.  Attract­ing birds has many ben­e­fits beyond the obvi­ous of help­ing out the birds. Birds are enjoy­able to watch and lis­ten to. Plus they are a valu­able to our ecosys­tem. Birds espe­cially need our help to sur­vive harsh win­ters and in the spring when they are exhausted and under­nour­ished from the win­ter. Spring feed­ers also are a great help to  keep them strong dur­ing their exhaust­ing nest­ing season.

Vis­it­ing birds feed­ing in your yard may stay close by to nest so another great gift is a bird house. Hav­ing safe, well designed bird houses to raise their chicks is an invest­ment in the future health of their species.

A bird bath is a must and espe­cially impor­tant in the hot dry months. Birds, of course, need water to drink and they bath in it to keep clean, but also water is impor­tant to help them from becom­ing overheated.

I don’t pro­fess to be a bird expert…  But I do know any of these items for attract­ing birds make a wel­come and long last­ing gift that is never for­got­ten. Plus doing your bit to help the birds out can’t be a bad thing either!
