Gift Guide For Someone Who Has Everything – Think Outside Of The Box When It Comes To Gift Giving

We are in the season of anniversary, birthday and heading towards (gulp) holiday gift giving.

I know it can be hard to find a unique present for someone who has everything for any of these occasions. So I suggest you ‘think outside of the box’ – but more than that – think ‘outside of the box while inside of the box’.

Do I have you totally confused now? Let me explain.

When it comes to finding a present for someone who has everything, or someone who is hard to buy for, you don’t need to stray outside of your comfort zone and get something you have no idea if she/he will like. All you need to do is show a little flair and creativity within your comfort zone.

You will be amazed at what you can find.

If, for example, she likes clothes, shoes, purses, etc., but you know you can’t give her just something ‘normal’ (that would be inside of the box), then think a clothing (shoe, purse, etc.) but with a twist – which is outside of the box thinking.

Finding a Guy Gift Is Experiencing What Men Want

In my travels to find guy gifts I have to say that as a woman I really needed to change my mindset so that’s my first piece of advice for women looking for their guy.

Meaning, you have to try and be the guy.

Of course I don’t mean physically being a guy, I mean trying to get into the psyche of the man you are buying for, as way to understand better what they would like. As a woman I can easily get into the thoughts of what a woman might want for a present, but when it came to finding a gift for him, well, I actually had to turn to my husband for help on some occasions.

Some of what I offer below is from my experience with him and some are things he has shared (deeply held sacred male secrets I am led to believe).

The closer you are to a man, the less easy the task can become because they tend to be wary of direct answers for fear of hurting your feelings. For example he might hesitate to give you a straight answer that reveals how wrong you were about your choice in the past.

So unless there is a specific item they have been really obvious about wanting, new gadget for example, it can be difficult to get a read from them on what they want.

One good way to learn about what he likes, or not, is to look around for presents you’ve given him in the past.

It’s not always accurate but often you can get a better picture of whether they were good or bad choices. If it was a wearable, and it’s still in good shape, unless there is a weight/size issue involved then the chances are he doesn’t like it. And don’t buy into the ‘I want to keep it looking nice because it’s special’ line. If he likes it, he’ll wear until it’s frayed, and whimper like a puppy when you insist on delegating it to the rag bin.

Let me tell you a bit about my Billy.

He is the absolute perfect partner/husband. Not only does he fit all the criteria for what every woman would want as a partner, but as I mentioned above he also spills the beans to me on deeply mystical guy-only inside stuff.

Billy tells me what guys are, and aren’t. What they think, and don’t.

I have told him on many occasions he should write a book for woman (simple tips and illuminations on what guys are really about). But he’s afraid he’d have to go into hiding like Salman Rushdie for being a traitor to his bro’s.

When it comes to gifts for men, that I post on the site, I usually run them past him. He is the best indicator of what men like. Though I do admit there are many gifts that I put up that I like and hope men will.

Billy, well, sometime yes and sometimes no.

Artisan Gifts Are Unique In The True Sense Of The Word

Why do I say that – because they are made by artists in many types of forms, styles and different media.

Even if they make more than one of a design, because of the way they create their work, each one turns out slightly different and is actually one of a kind!

A Great Gift For Men Who Love Cool Toys!

I read a statement the other day that I thought was so true:

“The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.”

One test of whether a toy for males is great is when you get a toy gift for your boy, and your man is just as excited (maybe a little envious) and itching to play with it too.

Introducing Your ‘Gift Guide’ For Someone Who Has Everything

Yes, that’s me! Not sure if my cap is right for this kind of guiding but I think it looks kinda cool so it’ll do for now!

My plan is to do a weekly feature to share some great tips with you about finding gifts for someone who has everything. So, what are my qualifications to be your “Gift Guide”? Well let me fill you in.

I have worn many hats in my very lively life. I spent the first half of it working in retail. I began working part-time in fashion boutiques when I was in school. I graduated to a full time position and worked my way up the ladder from Assistant Manager to Manager of a fashion store for both women and men. I spent endless hours helping customers look for unique gifts for their someone special.

What struck me most, and still does today, is really how little people shopping for gifts know about the person they are shopping for. They may know the person ‘inside and out’, but when it comes to what kind of gift they would like, that barrel is empty. They shoot blanks and no matter how well meaning they are, chances are good they’ll buy something completely wrong.

So I am going to be your guide… guide you, give tips and more to help you with gift purchases. I will do this by relationship (girlfriend / boyfriend, wife / husband, mother / father, etc.) with particular suggestions for all.

So stay tuned for the weekly tips!

Today’s Tip

Question: What can I buy my Wife. She has the clothes, jewelry, car. I need to find something really unique. Please help.

Answer: First you need to look at what she likes, or hobbies she has. Ask her friends discretely if she has pointed out something special when they were out together, (don’t want her thinking you are spending err, um, ‘quality time’ with her BFF!). Ask the dog ask the cat (only kidding).

What is her favorite book (t.v. program, movie)? Find something she liked in it, then create a ‘theme present’ around a scene from it, (romantic, not the part where the thugs rough up the hero!). This could be a great life experience gift!
