A Special Gift For A Child When It’s Time To Go Back To School

Parents are so aware of supplies that they have to buy for kids when it comes to back to school time and spend an enormous amount of time and energy making sure they have everything they need. But they often overlook the most obvious need, at least for the child.

Kids getting ready for back to school do think about the supplies that they need, sure, but that is not really what is most important. What they wear is.

Let me tell you a personal story.

Close to the end of summer, just before I was going into my first year of high school (grade 9), I was frantic about what I should wear. We had just moved to a new area so I didn’t know very many peers, and I certainly did not know what was “in” style. What I did know was that I wanted to look good the first day of school.

I talked to my Mum about it but she didn’t really seem to understand what I was saying. She said I had plenty of clothes that would work just fine.

That wasn’t the point.

I was trying to explain to her that on the first day of school you can be judged so much by how you look. It’s not the price tag, or designer label, its that it is something that the other kids haven’t seen you in, or something that lets them know who you are by the style of clothing. Plus wearing something that makes you feel strong when you face that first day.

Finally after a couple of weeks of talking about this my Mum took me out to buy a new outfit for school. I was thrilled to bits she did. But not so thrilled to bits with the outcome. The only outfit that I could afford, from my baby sitting money, in truth embarrassed me. But at least it was new.

So what is my point in suggesting this gift for kids?

As much as what a kid wears the first day of school shouldn’t matter, it does. What you want to give them is something to show that they fit in. Not so much that the clothes they are wearing are the same as everyone else, but that they have something NEW they are wearing. Something they can feel good about themselves in.

Something that they won’t be made fun for wearing.

If you want to give your child, or a child you care about, something that they will remember for years to come please do take the time to find them a clothing that gives them the security in themselves and how they appear to others the first day of school.

They come in jackets, sweaters, skirts, dresses, shoes, purses, scarves, gloves and so much more.

Even the most tame woman enjoys some flare. Whether she will only wear a solid colored suit during the day she can add animal print shoes to spice it up.

If she dabbles in some trendy fashions to wear to work then animal print pants are the answer.

Or if she only lets her wild child out at night then an animal print leather jacket, black leather skirt and animal print shoes will thrill her to bits.

There is nothing like a gift that makes her feel hot.

You can give her a gift of a whole outfit in leopard print, a pair of shoes to rock black pants, a scarf to add some flare to a black sweater, a leopard print watch that sparkles, or a leopard print purse that her friends will envy!

How To Look Cool When It Is Hot

Like a good portion of North America (and other places), it’s hot here. Thankfully, we don’t get as warm as many of you are and I sympathize with you all suffering through torrid temperatures and the hardships that are accompanying it for many of you…

I feel for you!

I am suffering right now and thinking of how to stay cool. Because it doesn’t get as hot here for extended periods of time, air conditioning is not something you find built into every home.

So what to do?

Well, the obvious stuff, like squirt ourselves with the garden sprinkler seems to work good, hardly anyone has a swimming pool in our hood.

And, we wear as little as we can…

Even if we aren’t as toned as Stacy Keibler, or as buff as our favorite film star, we can still look cool and classy by choosing what little we wear, carefully. Throw a bikini bottom on and wear a pretty scarf as a sarong and you’ll look sharp while you stay cool.

A Gift Can Just Be A Good Deed

While I was in the kitchen I noticed a father up a ladder trying to get his son’s kite out of a tree in the park across the street. He was on a small ladder and using a rake to try and get to the toy that was stuck in a high branch. He was not getting close to where it was lodged in the tree. It looked like a lost cause.

So I went and asked Billy if he would help.

Billy use to be a landscaper so has several ladders and a couple of orchard ladders that are quite tall. I was sure one of them would be high enough to get to the child’s toy.

As always, Billy was more than willing to go out and help.

He went across to the park and talked to the father, and looked at the location of the toy in the tree. From that he decided what size ladder would be needed.

They came over to our yard and picked up the ladder and went back to the park. Billy set it up, ensuring it was secure, and stood at the bottom the hold it, with his body weight, as the father went up to try and get the toy out of the tree.

I was watching from the window in the kitchen and I could see the excitement the boy was radiating. He was hopeful his toy would actually be saved. After a few swipes it was down. His son ran and grabbed it.

They talked for a bit after it was all done. Smiles, lots of smiles 🙂

I thought it was a kite but it turns out it was a parachute toy. The child was very happy as he had given up ever getting his toy back.

A gift can just be a helping hand when someone doesn’t expect it. We all have so many talents that we can give when needed.

We also made new friends in the neighborhood 🙂

Did you know that the first ice resurfacer was pioneered and developed by American inventor and engineer Frank Zamboni in 1949. The Zamboni ice-resurfacer is more than another example of ingenuity. It is a cultural touchstone. It has been featured in television shows ranging from CSI to David Letterman.

Plus the late Charles Schultz, an avid hockey player, had two of them at his home rink, and the machines made several appearances in his Peanuts comic strip.

Is Your Woman Who Has Everything An “Uptown Girl”

As Billy Joel said in the song “she knows what she wants”.

Maybe you feel like Billy in that song, a ‘back street guy’ trying to buy a gift for your ‘uptown girl’.

You can’t afford to give her the type of present ‘uptown girls’ are accustomed to, jewels, cars, etc., but you know what, even uptown girls love something unique. Something that shows you know her and also show your flair of imagination.

I hear that sigh, but wait…

Unique? Something she doesn’t see everywhere, or everyone wearing, can give her pleasure as much as the expensive things she may be used to getting.

How do I know?

Well from my retail experience. I spent many years helping men find ‘that’ present. The one that will light her face with such a big smile, you’ll be fighting the urge to do a fist pump of YES! If I had a nickel for every ‘backstreet’ guy mooning around my shop wishing he could afford the expensive ‘this or that’, well I would be too busy sipping Coronas on a beach to bother blogging to tell you.

Again, the key is to think about her and find something unique and creative that she will cherish for what it is, not how much it is. Give her a gift she will remember, not because it’s the most expensive, but because it was the most memorable, thoughtful and creative.

A Ring Can Make An Incredible Fashion Statement

Clothing and shoes/boots are what we tend to think of when we hear the word “fashion”. But when a woman wants to make a ‘fashion statement’ she looks for that and more.

A few examples are a scarf, belt and jewelry.

With jewelry, woman tend to look at earrings, a necklace or a bracelet to enhance her fashion statement. Certainly there are so many wild styles these days that she can change her look just by changing one or all of them. But even more than that…

A ring can be one of the most important addition to her fashion statement.

Now some of you will say that you knew that about rings already. Yes, cocktail rings have been around a long time. I’m also not forgetting engagement rings which do make a fashion statement and more, of course. What I am talking about is beyond a cocktail ring, and these could even be the ‘new’ engagement ring rage, who knows!

Sometimes Gift Giving Is Giving Yourself A Gift

If you are alone, or have suffered a loss of a loved one, the ‘holidays’ can be a very difficult time.

There may be no tree, no lights, no presents, no friends… but there is something you can do for you.

Buy yourself some flowers or a plant, buy a couple of new throw pillows to add some color to your couch, buy a new bed spread.

Buy something that is new and gives you a feeling of joy.

If you can’t afford to do that, or that just doesn’t feel like it will make a difference to you then how about volunteering. Spend time with children who don’t have parents, or seniors that don’t have children.

Yes that is also a gift to you as much as it is a gift to them

Personally I was not in the holiday spirit at all this year. There are numerous reasons but the one I will talk about is the loss of my 18 year old cat KC. She was very ill in late December last year and died in early January. Billy and I did not feel like celebrating at all this year.

We are still in mourning.

What we did was rearrange our living area. That may sound like it doesn’t mean much, but in fact it has made a difference. The space that we would always see KC has now changed. The space is more open, more inviting, and feels more peaceful. We did this on Christmas eve. It’s not finished yet, but what has been done has really made a difference.

It was a gift to ourselves.

If you take a few breathes, close your eyes, and let the silence speak to you, I am sure you will discover what gift to give YOU this holiday season. Remember, YOU do deserve it!

Unique Hair Extension Gift For The Woman Who Has Everything

Woman always fuss with their hair.

They may cut it, color it, do all sorts of different things to make them look better – and – feel better. I know this because I do it too (except cut my hair 🙂
